THE #1 SSH CLIENT FOR iOS — POWERFUL FEATURES, EASY-TO-USE.
Includes Panic Sync, our secure, super sync service — for FREE.

ABOUT
Its classic. You step outside for a few seconds to eat some gyros and the server goes down, or you lie down to do some light reading and a web page needs an emergency typo fix. Maybe your company uses IRC. Maybe you just like to check in on your servers often. Either way, youre the type of person that already uses SSH. Having a quality SSH client in your pocket is a very good idea.

Welcome to Prompt 2. In the three years since Prompt was released and became a favorite of admins, weve been constantly releasing updates, while also taking notes on what significant new features people wished Prompt had. Then, we did almost all of it.

Prompt 2 is, simply put, an excellent SSH and TELNET client. But how can it make SSH tasks easier? Read on.

NEW IN PROMPT 2

Pros and cons of Prompt 2 app for iPhone and iPad

Prompt 2 app good for

The app is very good, really performs well, but the black and white text interface is soo old-school, come on, its 2016, where is VR and 3D?
Well designed and works like a charm! Im super happy with the app
Really solid product. If you ever do anything with a terminal, download this. Handy for all sorts of small use cases too. I often connect to my Mac to download a big file for later reference.
I really like this SSH app. It tries to do only the necessities and I think it overall does that very well. I have several suggestions that Im certain others also have: 1. The color themes are very low contrast compared to what Id prefer. Just try weechat with either of the dark themes - the channel name on the bottom bar is not very readable. On my own computer I used Gnome Terminals tango color scheme. 2. Prompt 2 hides the onscreen keyboard on app switch, then shows the onscreen keyboard upon return to Prompt 2. When using curses apps this triggers multiple resizes, effectively making the SSH session unusable for a few seconds upon switching back to Prompt 2. This behavior is much more obvious when using tmux over a slow connection. 3. The top bar is always visible when in landscape mode on the iPhone 6+, halving the total possible vertical height thought possible. 4. Maybe I missed something, but for some weird reason Prompt 2 insists on running bash on login, which is completely irresponsible since SSH is used outside of UNIX-likes; not to mention not everybody uses bash on UNIX-likes. Cant Prompt 2 simply default to allowing the login shell to run?
This is the only ssh client with polish and an amazing feature set to match.
This is my current favorite SSH client for iOS. Great design and good functionality. Great enhancement in recent updates that allow selecting a font size from 7-24pt instead of being limited to just Small / Medium / Large. Plus, no more issues running `top`. Yay. Its nice that you can export the private key for generated keys. Its always good to not feel "locked in", especially for something like SSH keys. To sync devices, Panic does make you sign up for their own "Panic Sync" service instead of just using the iCloud Drive everybody already has. Id like to at least see iCloud as an option. Finally, Id like to see support for port forwarding in a future release, especially if Panic can figure out some way to keep the session active while in the background...

Some bad moments

I had to tweak around quite a bite to get my terminal back to what it used to look like and the tab thing is so friggin large it takes three lines of text away from my terminal. An option to minimize or not use the tabs would be nice. Or only display them when one is fiddling around at the upper area of the screen.
The original Prompt 1 worked with ssh links and would auto-fill the fields. With Prompt 2 this no longer works. Hopefully this will get added back!
I thought I had found the greatest app ever! It works amazingly on my iPhone 6+ but on my iPad mini its so slow its nearly useless. Seems to take between 1 and 2 seconds to register a key press when in an ssh session. This test was done with an ssh server on my lan with full signal wireless n wifi Update: lowered rating as this app does not work over a VPN.
Could be a 5 star app but... No support for multitasking or split-screen functionality that current iOS apps support, which would be of huge benefit to using SSH on iOS No built-support for text expander app, would be very useful No support for the much improved iPad pro keyboard Hope to see the app updated to support the iOS9s improvements and iPad Pro soon! Other than that, works as expected and havent found any other shortcomings.
So if youre thinking about buying Prompt, buy Coda instead - you have an integrated terminal client built in plus you get all of the latest and greatest iPad functionality (split screen multitasking, iPad pro support, etc.). Panic hasnt updated Prompt at all since iOS9 was released so it isnt really good for much. Wish it was updated though so I could splitscreen Coda and Prompt, but oh well. TL;DR money is better spent on Coda because it actually gets updates
Please add support for SSH tunnel. Even if it comes as a paid upgrade, I would pay some bucks for it.

Usually Prompt 2 iOS app used & searched for
