Prompt 2 App Reviews

Very good!

This is a really good client and Panic Sync is really awesome to sync between device. The only missing star is that Panic Sync doesnt sync between Transmit and Prompt.

Good but...

I wish for a even smaller font size...

SSH links no longer work

The original Prompt 1 worked with ssh links and would auto-fill the fields. With Prompt 2 this no longer works. Hopefully this will get added back!

Simply Amazing

I use this app everyday and it is without a doubt one of the best apps on my phone. The clips are genius and make my frequently used commands 2 taps away. Great work developers, well worth the price.

No VPN

I thought I had found the greatest app ever! It works amazingly on my iPhone 6+ but on my iPad mini its so slow its nearly useless. Seems to take between 1 and 2 seconds to register a key press when in an ssh session. This test was done with an ssh server on my lan with full signal wireless n wifi Update: lowered rating as this app does not work over a VPN.

Exceeded expectations

Absolutely indispensable for merely the way it makes ssh on he iPhone palatable, this remarkably stunning app is the only option I can find for generating and storing PGP keys - good thing its so straightforward! Generate then copy private or public key to clipboard. Beautiful. Touch ID is a wonderful addition that adds an extra sense of security. It remembers commands you use most as well as what order you use them in, saving typing time. Folders also allow you to store VPN addresses for your servers in a separate space. Best money Ive ever spent on an iOS app hands down.

Still the best

The original prompt was my favorite ssh client. Prompt 2 continues that tradition but now with iOS 8 support!

Beautiful SSH Client!

This is the nicest SSH client on the iPhone, iPad, iMac, Windows whatever! Great job Panic! Worth every cent!

Prompt 2 is the only iOS ssh app that works with modern BSD sshds

After spending $100 on 8 different SSH apps that dont work with modern OpenBSD(>= 5.7) and FreeBSD ssh (because the latest versions have deprecated all the old broken key exchange algorithms which seems to be the only ones the other apps support) I finally found Prompt 2 which was the only one that worked. Thank you @panic for giving us at least one solution for connectivity with modern SSH on iDevices!

Works well but needs update to keep current

Could be a 5 star app but... No support for multitasking or split-screen functionality that current iOS apps support, which would be of huge benefit to using SSH on iOS No built-support for text expander app, would be very useful No support for the much improved iPad pro keyboard Hope to see the app updated to support the iOS9s improvements and iPad Pro soon! Other than that, works as expected and havent found any other shortcomings.

Buggy but works

The keyboard keeps going black and buttons disappear. Rotating to landscape and back fixes it but a pain. Aside from this it works well as a ssh client.

Kind of obsolete now

So if youre thinking about buying Prompt, buy Coda instead - you have an integrated terminal client built in plus you get all of the latest and greatest iPad functionality (split screen multitasking, iPad pro support, etc.). Panic hasnt updated Prompt at all since iOS9 was released so it isnt really good for much. Wish it was updated though so I could splitscreen Coda and Prompt, but oh well. TL;DR money is better spent on Coda because it actually gets updates

Keeps getting better!

This is an essential tool for any admin, very polished and stable app.

Aces all the way

Saved my bacon so many times.

Almost perfect

Superb app that just about covers my checklist for an ssh client. Alas, no port forwarding (we miss you iSSH) which is a major buzz kill. Still this app is worth every penny. Hoping the nice folks at Panic eventually come through on this.

Great app

Allows me to use my iPhone as my main computer. Though I bet this would look/function great on an iPad pro.

Leaves nothing to be desired

I have been a Prompt user for many years and have yet to be disappointed. I cannot count the times Prompt has come to my rescue when a server of mine runs into trouble, or a shell user needs something done. Tab support, cursor movement, ctrl key, etc. Perfection.

I like it, but

I cant use backspace in vim when edit files. Debug this problem please.

Amazing!

Panic = Quality. This app is absolutely fantastic, great ux and look&feel! Love it!

Great app, just implement mosh support and it will be great

Hi, I’ve had a look into mosh sources and found the following in COPYING.ios file: "The Mosh developers are aware that the terms of service that apply to apps distributed via Apples App Store services may conflict with rights granted under Moshs license, the GNU General Public License, version 3. The Mosh copyright holders do not wish this conflict to prevent the otherwise-compliant distribution of Mosh-derived apps via the App Store. Therefore, we have committed not to pursue any license violation that results solely from the conflict between the GPLv3 and the Apple App Store terms of service. In other words, as long as you comply with the GPL in all other respects, including its requirements to provide users with source code and the text of the license, we will not object to your distribution of Mosh through the App Store."
